Random acts of violence and kindness collide as immigration attorney Mack, stranded in a bad part of town and set upon by a gang of street thugs. Tow truck driver Simon, comes to the rescue and the two become good friends. Mack tries to repay Simon by setting him up on a blind date and helping his sister move to a better neighbourhood. Meanwhile, Mack's best friend is wounded in a robbery, Mack's wife Claire finds an abandoned baby and applies for adoption and Simon's nephew is thinking of joining a gang. As everybody's lives interweave, the class and race issues that would normally keep them apart fall away.
